Anandotsavam: 2023

Ananda Arts are over the moon to be hosting Anandotsavam 2023!

Madhaviji Mudgal will inaugurate our festival with a special video performance which will open our performance evening, followed by wonderful live pieces by Arushi Mudgal, Ranjitha Chowalloor, Parbati Chaudhury, Divya Ravi and Shalakha Rai.

We are thrilled to have such expertise on stage and offer such a variety of poetry and styles!

ANANDA ODISSI FESTIVAL 2023

The same wonderful team are finally bringing our renowned Ananda Odissi Festival back to life following lockdown for face to face workshops once again!

The festival offers the rare opportunity to learn under the guidance of Madhavi Mudgal's senior student and world-renowned Odissi artist Arushi Mudgal, accompanied by accomplished disciple Shalakha Rai. 

Workshops will include explorations in Abhinaya and innovative creations of 5-6 beat Arasas with Arushi Mudgal, as well as learning complete Odissi repertoire with Arushi Mudgal and Shalakha Rai. 

They will be conducted from 26th August to 1st September 2023, with opportunities for dance teachers and students to refine their skills, yoga/warm up sessions and more, including a special video performance from Guru Madhavi Mudgal and live performances by Arushi Mudgal, Parbati Chaudhury, Ranjitha Chowalloor, Divya Ravi and Shalakha Rai on 27th August (free to full time participants).

ANANDA ODISSI FESTIVAL 2021

Most of you will be familiar with our Ananda Odissi Festival, where Ananda Arts has successfully brought together the largest congregation of Odissi dancers training in one place in the UK. This year the same wonderful team are bringing the festival to life for the fourth time! However, this year's format will be a little different due to COVID restrictions and the current situation regarding the pandemic.

The festival offers the rare opportunity to learn under the guidance of world-renowned Odissi exponent Padmasri Madhavi Mudgal, accompanied by her accomplished disciple Shalakha Rai. Online workshops will be running over 3 separate weekends whereby participants will have the option to either attend the full festival experience which includes all workshop weekends, the webinar and the live performance or opt to attend specific streams of the festival individually.

  • SENIOR full festival experience with Guru Madhavi Mudgal: A joyous and beautiful Behag Pallavi

  • INTERMEDIATE full festival experience with Shalakha Rai: An original 7 beat Oriya Mangalacharan

Most of you will be familiar with our Ananda Odissi Festival, where Ananda Arts has successfully brought together the largest congregation of Odissi dancers training in one place in the UK consecutively for the last two years. We are excited to announce this year’s festival which offers the rare opportunity to learn under the guidance of world-renowned Odissi exponent Padmasri Madhavi Mudgal, accompanied by her accomplished disciple Shalakha Rai. Workshops will be conducted from 23rd to 29th August 2019, with opportunities for dance teachers and students to refine their skills, performances, yoga/warm up sessions and more. Guest speakers and panelists will be speaking and papers will be presented on the Sanskrit poem Gita Govinda which has stood the test of time and is still an inspiration for compositions today. Budding choreographers will be premiering their work and ideas.

Odissi Syllabus Open day

26th August, during our Ananda Odissi Festival is another special day for Odissi in the UK and the first ever Odissi Syllabus Open Day with  an invited  panel of senior UK based dance professionals. Participants, including aspiring and well established teachers and students dedicated to Odissi will be able to participate, contributing to the much needed process of creating a working syllabus for Odissi. Experts include Odissi exponent Padmasri Guru Madhavi Mudgal, Sujata Bannerjee (ISTD Faculty Director and Kathak exponent), Mira Misra Kaushik (OBE, Director, Akademi), Urja Thakore (leading Kathak expert, Artistic Director, Pagrav and ISTD Examiner), Pushkala Gopalakrishnan (leading Bharatanatyam Expert and Mentor for ISTD syllabus developing).

This year the same wonderful team are bringing the festival to life for the second time under Ananda Arts. The festival offers the rare opportunity to learn under the guidance of world-renowned Odissi exponent Padmasri Madhavi Mudgal, accompanied by her accomplished disciple Shalakha Rai. Generations Dancing

Ananda Arts will be performing alongside many other talented groups and artists of all ages at the upcoming event Generations Dancing at the University of Bedfordshire, Polhill Avenue.

The day will consist of an exhibition at 2pm where guests will be able to see photography and film work made collaboratively by young people and older adults living in Bedford. This will be followed by a showcase of performances from various young people’s and adults dance groups in Bedford in the University theatre.

  

 

 

Tickets can be bought on the door in the gateway reception. Tickets include free refreshments: adults - £5, under 16s or over 65s - £3. 

Proceeds from ticket sales are put back into the project budget to support future dance activity for people living in Bedford.

Sacred Shapes

Ananda Arts were delighted to be invited to dance alongside many other school children and Odissi Ensemble as part of the opening day of Sacred Shapes. Choreography by Katie Ryan commissioned by Imagine Luton - a powerful piece inspired by the symbolism of the ancient diagram Sri Yantra, consisting of inverted triangles in a circle denoting the place of humans in the cosmos.
